When we think of listening to music, we usually picture big sound systems. However, on a jobsite, we need something more compact, but that will still deliver the sound that we need. A tool that delivers this is the DeWalt DCR018 Compact Jobsite Radio, which comes in a small yet durable package.

DeWalt DCR018 Compact Jobsite Radio

A simple and portable jobsite radio with heavy-duty design and shock-resistant framing. This durable and compact radio is easily portable.

This jobsite radio focuses on compact and portable design, with a top handle to allow easy mobility around the jobsite without compromising sound quality or power to keep the music (and your task) going.

Specifications

This portable jobsite radio measures 10 x 7.3 inches, making it quite compact and easy to put anywhere. It also weighs only 6 pounds, so lifting it from one place to another is simple and hassle-free. It has various compatible battery packs from DeWalt’s lineup of tools, such as 12V, 18V, and 20V MAX.

It comes with a 3.5-mm AUX input for your favorite music player or mobile device. In addition, it has a portable satellite connection that allows the reception of digital audio devices. Moreover, it has a USB power port for convenient charging. Like many other jobsite radios, it allows for AC/DC power so you can keep the music going without worries of draining the batteries.

Quality

This jobsite radio is backed by a 3-year limited warranty from DeWalt. However, to keep it durable enough to withstand the test of time, it has a heavy-duty design with shock-resistant framing – perfect for most jobsite situations. The roll cage will keep it protected against wear and tear, particularly handy for rough and tough jobsites.

Aside from that, it has a device storage box so that whatever you use to play your audio will be protected from the elements, as well as jobsite dangers like dust and debris.

Usability

When it comes to usability features, this jobsite radio has a charging option, which allows you to turn the radio into a portable power bank while it is plugged into a wall outlet. This is convenient if you need to charge your phone or other devices while at work.

I also like that it has a wide compatibility for batteries, which allows you to use various DeWalt batteries. If you already have some DeWalt tools in your arsenal, these batteries are interchangeable, making maintenance quick and simple.

Due to its small design, the jobsite radio is also mountable to any vehicle. A convenient and useful feature when making repairs or when heading off to work.

DeWalt DCR018 Radio in Use

Should You Buy the DeWalt DCR018 Jobsite Radio?

The DeWalt DCR018 best appeals to folks who need a durable and worry-free jobsite radio that they can take with them anywhere. It is also ideal for making repairs in a garage or vehicle due to its compact design.

If you are still unsure about your decision, go through the below list of the pros and cons of the tool.

Pros of the DeWalt DCR018

Let’s start with the pros.

It has a compact design.

Measuring only 10 x 7.3 inches, this jobsite radio is indeed one of the most compact units around. This makes it suitable for working in a car or vehicle, as well as in cramped garages. Its space-saving design is a much-needed feature for people who are working in small areas.

I also like that it can be mounted or bolted down to any vehicle, so long as it fits the area intended. If you frequently use your vehicle, such as a car or truck, to move materials from one jobsite to another, this space-saving portable radio is for you.

It has a device storage box.

A device storage box will help keep your gadgets out of the way when you move the jobsite radio from place to place. It will also serve as a protective measure so that your gadgets stay safe against debris. This is important if you tend to work with wood projects and get sawdust flying everywhere.

The last thing you’d want to have is a phone or music player getting caked with dust. So, with this device storage box, your valuable devices are safe from work debris.

It’s easily portable.

As I said above, it has a top handle with a molded design. This allows you to easily and conveniently lift the jobsite radio, without causing fatigue. What’s more, since the handle is at the top, lifting it from one area to another won’t be much of a hassle. Likewise, the handle is molded along with the roll cage, for added durability.

The jobsite radio only weighs 6 pounds, so it’s easy to carry with you, unlike other heavier and bulkier units. If you want your music to follow you around the jobsite, or need to put it in the car or truck to take with you, this jobsite radio is a great portable option.

It has wide battery compatibility.

If you own other battery-powered tools from DeWalt, you’ll find it convenient that this jobsite radio has wide battery compatibility with the brand’s other tools. It allows you to use any of the 12V, 18V, or 20V MAX battery packs.

Cons of the DeWalt DCR018

Even though the DeWalt DCR018  is a great tool, there are a few cons worth noting as well.

It doesn’t have Bluetooth.

Although it has an AUX port for connecting to traditional music players, it doesn’t have a Bluetooth function, so you’ll still need to depend on wires.

It doesn’t have an equalizer.

Unfortunately the sound quality isn’t that customizable, and will be staying as is without an equalizer.

What Are the Alternatives to the DeWalt DCR018?

Alternative to Dewalt DCR018 Although the DeWalt DCR018 is a decent jobsite radio for most occasions, if you don’t find it the right unit for your needs, here are some other alternatives:

A similar jobsite radio with a conveniently portable profile is the Bosch PB120 (read my review), which only weighs 3.1 pounds and has a slim design. It’s easy to move around and will play your favorite radio tunes with its AM/FM selection. However, it doesn’t have an equalizer.

If you do have some space in your garage or jobsite, the Milwaukee 2890-20 (read my review) is the radio for you. This unit also has an equalizer as well as 10 radio presets. Unfortunately, this model does not have Bluetooth either.

If you do prefer a unit with Bluetooth capability, you’ll like the Bosch PB360C (read my review). This jobsite radio has 10 AM and 20 FM radio presets and has up to 360 degrees of sound due to its four-way speakers. It has a similar cube design to the DeWalt pick I mentioned above.

Summary

Overall, the DeWalt DCR018 is a great jobsite radio if you want a simple way of playing music from your favorite AM or FM station or device. It might not have Bluetooth but it has a portable design that allows you to take it anywhere you like. Likewise, its storage box will keep your gadget or phone protected from work debris.
