When you are looking to buy new tools, you probably start by focusing on some of the major brands out there. Of course, you want the biggest bang for your buck, all without having to spend a fortune.

Well, two very popular brands in the world of tools are Worx and Makita.

So, which one should you choose? Continue reading to find out.

A Brief History of Worx and Makita

First, we have Worx. This is an extremely infantile brand in the sense that it has only been around for a little bit over a decade. Keep in mind that Worx is not its own company by any means, as it is actually owned by a large Chinese parent company known as the Positec Tool Corporation, which is currently based out of Suzhou, China.

The founder of the Positec Tool Corporation is a man named Don Gao, who first founded the company back in 1994. At this time, Don Gao started selling his tools to other tool brands, which then sold these tools under their own names. However, Don Gao quickly realized how valuable selling these tools under his own brand would be, hence why he created Worx in 2004, making the brand just over 15 years old.

Worx products can be found in Europe and North America, particularly in retailers such as Lowe’s, Walmart, Home Depot, Canadian Tire, and Costco. The information about company size and revenue is very lacking here, although from what we have gathered, Worx is a very small brand.

Long Story Short…

Worx

Worx is a Chinese power tool and outdoor equipment manufacturer. It was launched by Positec in 2004.

On the other hand, we have Makita, a Japanese manufacturer of power tools and related products. The founder of this brand is Mosabura Makita and it was first started in Aichi, Japan.

It was originally known as Makita Electric Works Company, and it started out by manufacturing and selling lighting equipment, motors, and transformers. However, during the 1950s, it became clear that Japan did not have any large tool manufacturers, which is why Makita began making and selling power tools by 1960.

Makita created the first nickel-cadmium rechargeable battery tool in 1978, the 6010D rechargeable drill. Later on, in 1997, Makita created the first nickel hydride battery tool, the 6213D rechargeable driver-drill. In 2005, the first lithium-ion battery tool, the TD130D was created.

At this time, Makita has roughly 17,000 employees worldwide, with a presence in over 40 countries, with 10 production plants. The estimated annual revenue for Makita for the previous year is about 4.5 billion dollars.

Worx vs. Makita: Which Offers Better Quality?

First off, when it comes to Worx tools, these products are seen as being fairly average, with many of the products being slightly above average. The consensus here is that Worx products tend to be comfy, functional, user friendly, and fairly reliable.

Moreover, people really seem to like Worx outdoor tools, such as their lawn and garden tools. Overall, those seem to be of a higher quality than their power tools. Generally speaking, most people agree that Worx outdoor tools are suitable for most situations and applications, whereas the power tools may be best left for DIY and home use, as well as crafts and small repairs.

The only issue is that Worx power tools may not be quite durable enough to handle a fast-paced job site that requires constant tool use. Since Worx is owned by the Positec Tool Corporation, it is safe to say that Worx tools are made in China.

In terms of Makita, this brand is seen as producing very high-quality tools, some of the best in the world in fact. Makita prides itself on using high-quality raw materials and adhering to high production standards. The consensus is that Makita tools are functional, user-friendly, powerful, and very durable too.

Of course, with this high level of quality also comes a fairly high price, but you get what you pay for, and with Makita you get lots of quality and durability.

If you are a professional working in the trades, Makita tools are definitely an option to consider, as they are the kinds of tools that you can use all day long without the fear of breaking them or burning out their motors. It is noted that Makita products have a great ability to withstand high amounts of heat, friction, and general wear.

Which Offers a Better Warranty?

Worx offers a three-year limited warranty on its products.

Makita offers a 30-day replacement guarantee on all products. All tools have a one-year general product warranty for defects. All emissions-related tools have a two-year warranty. Finally, all lithium-ion tools come with a three-year limited warranty.

Across the board, we do think that Makita has a better warranty than Worx.

Worx vs. Makita: Which Has a Better Product Portfolio?

When it comes down to it, comparing Worx to Makita is like comparing a toy car to a Monster Truck. Makita is the far larger of the two companies, and it has a much larger selection of products across the board.

What can be said is that although Worx does seem to focus heavily on the outdoor power equipment over tools, even in the outdoor equipment categories, Makita has a larger selection of products. Of course, Makita also produces way more products than just power tools and outdoor equipment, with shop vacuums being just one of those things.

Which Brand Offers a Better Selection of Chainsaws?

At this time, the Worx website has eight chainsaws available for purchase, whereas the Makita site has 16.

Which of the Two Brands Should You Choose?

It is fair to say that if you want outdoor equipment, Worx is a great brand to go with, as their outdoor equipment is highly rated. There is also the fact that Worx products are fairly affordable.

However, if you are going for a massive selection of high-quality tools, then Makita is definitely your best bet.

Summary

Both Worx and Makita are fine brands to consider, both with their strengths and weaknesses. That said, if you have a bit of extra cash to invest, and you want the highest quality possible, you do want to check out Makita first.

In case you are thinking of using your tools heavily, then out of these two, Makita is definitely the one to choose.
